Freighliner Tractor Trailer Involved In Serious Indiana Crash

GARY, IN ( (Source: Indiana State Police) — A three car crash Saturday morning on the exit to Grant Street caused two drivers to be taken to the hospital and the ramp to be closed for 1 ½ hours.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper William Carlson revealed, at approximately 3:30 a.m., this Saturday, June 2, 2018, morning a 2016 Ford Focus, driven by Christine Frost, 27 of Hammond, was east bound on I-80/94 when she made a lane change to exit off at Grant Street and hit a 1998 Ford E-150 van, driven by Curtis Hicks, 58 of East Chicago. The Focus then spun out and crashed into an impact attenuator. This then caused the Focus to travel north back into east bound I-80/94 where it crashed into a 2018 Freightliner semi, driven by James E. Wells, 65 of Falmouth, Kentucky.

The Focus came to rest facing north and blocking the east bound Grant Street exit ramp. The Ford E-150 also crashed into the outer shoulder barrier wall and came to rest partially on the ramp and outer shoulder.

Frost and Hicks were taken to North Lake Methodist Hospital in Gary with non-life threatening injuries. Wells was not injured.

All drivers were wearing their seat belts which contributed to no life threatening injuries.

Alcohol may be a factor in this crash, results are pending.

East bound Grant Street exit was closed for approximately 1 ½ hours for investigation of the crash, removal of the injured and vehicles, and clean-up.
