Freightliner In Life Threatening Crash

HAMMOND, IN (TruckingNewsNow.com) — A crash between a passenger car and a semi sent one of the drivers to the hospital with life threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Nicole Maenza of the Indiana State Police revealed that at approximately 4:40 this morning a 2008 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Tristen M. Riezinger, 22 of Crown Point was east bound on I-80/94 at the .9 mile marker (Calumet Avenue) in the left middle lane when for unknown reasons ran into the back of a semi-trailer.
The semi, a 2013 Freightliner, owned by 21st Twenty Transportation out of Frankfort, Illinois, loaded with 43,000 pounds of shingles on its flatbed trailer, was driven by Luis Sanchez, 33 of Bellwood, Illinois, was east bound in the left middle lane when he was hit in the rear.
Riezinger had to be extricated by the Hammond Fire Department from his car, and was taken to Christ Advocate Hospital in Illinois with life threatening injuries. Family has been notified.
Sanchez was not injured.
The inner and outer shoulder were open for traffic during the crash investigation.
